MEDFORD, Ore. – For the first time since the 2009 season, the College of Idaho completed a softball road sweep of Oregon Tech, using a 24-hit attack to claim both ends of a doubleheader at U.S. Cellular Fields.
Â
The Lady Yotes (5-8, 3-2 CCC) scored three times in the seventh inning of Game 1 to take a 4-1 victory and used a 5-run third inning to earn an 8-3 victory in the nightcap.
Â
Senior
Destiny Turner returned to the lineup after missing the first 11 games of the season, going a combined 4-for-8 with a pair of RBI in the two wins.
Â
Lefty
Colette Robert limited the bats of the No. 19 ranked Owls (10-5, 2-3) in Game 1, allowing just one run on three hits, striking out two to earn the win. She benefitted by a 2-out RBI single from
Delaney Atkins in the fifth inning to tie the score, with Atkins stealing second in the seventh – and when the ball was thrown into center field,
Courtney Ellis scampered home with the go-ahead run.
Â
Both Atkins and
Angelina Romero went 2-for-3 in the victory.
Â
C of I used a big third inning to pull away from Tech – as RBI singles from Turner, Romero and
Rickey Kamimae, along with two bases loaded walks, helped the visitors take a 6-0 lead.
Â
Ashley Pesek did the rest, tossing a complete game seven hitter for her second win. Turner and
Katelyn Geyer each were 3-for-4, with Atkins and Romero each logging two hits for the Yotes.
Â
The two teams close out the four-game series tomorrow with an 11 a.m. doubleheader.
