Mansanarez Big Hit, Martine's Arm Lift Yotes to Win

CALDWELL, Idaho – Cole Mansanarez delivered a two-out, two-run go-ahead double in the bottom of the seventh inning and the College of Idaho rode the left arm of Anthony Martine to a 5-3 victory over Saint Martin's in Game 2 of a five-game series at Wolfe Field.

Deadlocked at 1-1 in the seventh, Keaton Elledge was hit by a one-out pitch and moved to second when second-baseman Shaan Kothari booted a potential double-play ball. One out later, Mansanarez ripped a 3-2 pitch just inside the third-base line to plate the pair and give the Coyotes (6-8) the lead.  Dominic Conigliaro followed with an RBI single to right field to extend the lead.  C of I added an insurance run in the eighth, as Devon Pogue dropped down a perfect squeeze bunt to score Dalton Ridgway from third.

Martine was dominant, allowing an unearned run over the first eight innings of work – but hit Alec Hagerman with one out in the ninth and surrendered a two-out bad-hop Steven Sordahl single. Ridgway entered in relief and gave up a two-run double to Adam Eskil to cut the margin to 5-3, but got Austin Feist to ground out to end the Yotes five-game losing streak.

C of I struck first in the third inning on a Johnny Hyland RBI single, with the Saints (1-4) tying the score in the fifth when Feist reached on a dropped third strike, stole second and scored on a Cameron Mosier RBI single.

Martine allowed just four hits and struck out seven in his league-leading third win of the season for the Yotes, with Conigliaro and Ryan Murkle each going 2-for-4 in the victory.

SMU starter Aaron Shoup was solid, allowing just one earned run on eight hits, striking out five in six-plus innings of work.  Eskil had the lone multi-hit game for the Saints, going 2-for-4.

Games 3 and 4 of the series are tomorrow, with the first pitch of the opener set for 11 a.m. – one hour earlier that originally scheduled.
