CALDWELL, Idaho – Autumn Durand scored a game-high 25 points as fifth-ranked Southern Oregon used a late charge to defeat upset-minded College of Idaho, 73-56, inside the J.A. Albertson Activities Center.
The Raiders (23-3, 16-2 CCC), who had dropped two of their last three games after a 21-game win streak, used a 24-6 run spanning the third and fourth quarters after the Lady Yotes cut a 15-point deficit to three.
The Coyotes (11-13, 11-7), who had their five-game win streak snapped, rode two early 3-pointers from
Kiara Skinner and 3-point plays from both
Madison Pilster and
Petra Lumpert, as C of I took a 12-8 first quarter lead. SOU answered in a big way, as Durand scored six points in a 14-0 run, with a Durand put-back early in the second quarter extending the lead to 33-18.
Skinner kept the Yotes around, canning five first half triples to get C of I within 38-29 at the break, with Lumpert cutting the gap to 47-44 on a lay-up with three minutes left in the third quarter. On SOU's next possession, Durand hit a triple to jumpstart the rally, with Casey Williams canning back-to-back 3-pointers early in the fourth quarter to put the game away.
Williams scored 17 off the bench for the Raiders, with Sydney Mullings adding 10. Southern finished with 18 offensive rebounds which turned into 26 second-chance points – with the Raider bench outscoring the Yotes, 26-3.
Skinner scored 20 to lead C of I, making 6-of-10 3-point baskets, with Pilster logging a double-double, scoring 17 points with 10 rebounds. The Yotes struggled against the SOU pressure, recording a season-high 29 turnovers.
The Lady Yotes return to action on Thursday, hosting nationally-ranked Eastern Oregon at 5:30 p.m.
