KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – A rough shooting night for the College of Idaho, coupled with Oregon Tech hitting a season-high 14 3-pointers, lifted the Owls to a 90-57 victory over the Coyotes at Danny Miles Court.
OIT (14-5, 7-2 CCC) never trailed in the win, breaking an early tie with a 13-2 run, getting a triple and a runner from Tyler Hieb and a Seth Erickson 3-pointer to take a 17-6 lead. Enter Brandon Halter for the Owls, hitting consecutive treys to extend the lead to 27-10 – and after six-straight
Emanuel Morgan points pulled the Yotes within 29-18, added two more long range shots to give the hosts a 43-27 lead at the half.
After giving up the first basket of the second half, Tech locked down defensively, holding the Coyotes (13-6, 6-3) without a made field goal over an eight minute stretch, pushing the lead to 62-34 at the 12-minute mark. The lead would grow to as many as 44, before a late C of I rally.
Halter led all scorers with 25 points, including seven 3-point makes, with Hieb scoring 13 off the bench. OIT finished 14-of-26 from 3-point range and had a commanding 55-36 edge on the glass.
No Coyote scored in double figures – as
Dominique Jordan scored nine points, with Morgan,
Evan Henning and
Talon Pinckney all scoring seven. C of I hit a season-low 30-percent from the field and connected on just 9-of-20 free throw attempts.
The Yotes hit the road tomorrow, traveling to Southern Oregon for a 3 p.m. (PST) tip-off – live on ESPN Boise.
