Lady Yotes Knock Off Southern Oregon in Ashland

ASHLAND, Ore. – Brenna Meehan had 15 kills and 10 digs, while Cheyan Coburn had four of College of Idaho's 11 service aces, as the Lady Yotes turned away host Southern Oregon in four sets at Mountain Avenue Gym.

C of I (10-6, 6-3 CCC) quieted a large, partisan crowd with their 25-21, 25-22, 19-25, 26-24 victory, extending their win streak to three matches.

After a back and forth Set 4 that featured 11 ties and five lead changes, the Raiders (9-7, 6-3) pulled ahead 22-19 on consecutive Taylor Ristvedt and Courtney Macklin combo-blocks. The Yotes tied the score at 23-all after Alaina Slater logged a stuff block and a kill and won the match following back to back side outs, got a Meehan kill and a Coburn ace to end it.

The Yotes jumped on SOU in Set 1, getting two Jayde Folsom kills in a 7-0 start to the match, extending the lead to 18-8 after a Raider error in the easy opening win.

Southern responded in Set 2, taking a 16-13 lead on a Coyote error, but C of I scored six of the next seven points to grab the lead for good and take the commanding two set lead.

The Raiders would not quit, sprinting to a 13-5 lead in Set 3 to force the see-saw Set 4.

Ashley Pagan had 12 kills and Randi Sturtz had eight; with Jackie van Vliet chipping in with seven kills and four blocks and  Slater recording six kills and three blocks. Folsom led the setters with 31 assists and nine digs; Kilee Lopez had 21 digs; with Coburn adding 10 digs with her big service night.

Emma Gasman led SOU with 16 kills and Ristvedt finished with 11 kills in the loss.

C of I heads tomorrow to Oregon Tech for a 5 p.m. (PT) first-serve.
