KIRKLAND, Wash. - College of Idaho defensive specialist
Cheyan Coburn became the 15th player in program history to eclipse 1,000 career digs, but it wasn't enough, as the Lady Yotes dropped a three set match to Northwest University inside the NU Pavilion.
The Eagles (8-3, 5-1 CCC) ended a 25-match losing streak to C of I, dating back to the 2005 season, with the 25-20, 25-23, 25-17 victory.
Coburn had 11 digs in the match, pushing her career total to 1,004 - joining the elite club. Â A night before, the senior also joined the 100 ace club with a service winner against Evergreen.
Northwest used a solid hitting night (.287), while forcing C of I (8-6, 3-3) into 23 attack errors.
After dropping Set 1, the Yotes rebounded in the second set, getting four-straight kills from
Randi Sturtz to grab a 23-22 lead. Â However, following a side-out, Amanda Waterman gave the Eagles the lead with a kill and a C of I hitting error ended the set. Â NU would use a big rally midway through Set 3 to complete the sweep.
Sturtz led C of I with 14 kills and
Brenna Meehan had 13 kills and 13 digs in the loss for the Yotes.
C of I returns home this weekend for home dates against Multnomah and Warner Pacific.
