LA GRANDE, Ore. – Eastern Oregon used a smothering defensive effort to compete a three-set sweep of the College of Idaho in the Cascade Conference opener for both teams.
The No. 8 ranked Mountaineers (8-1, 1-0 CCC) recorded 11 team blocks and forced 28 C of I hitting errors in a 25-19, 25-16, 25-19 win inside Quinn Coliseum.
C of I (5-4, 0-1) jumped to a 4-0 lead in Set 1 and held a 9-6 lead on an
Abbey Fenton kill, only to watch EOU score the next nine points to pull away for the victory. Eastern used an 8-2 run in Set 2 open a 17-10 lead and ease to the set win, while scoring the final six points of the third set after the Yotes had tied the score at 19-19.
Madisen Garlie had nine kills and six blocks for EOU, with Megan Bunn adding eight kills and Amanda Miller had seven.
Brenna Meehan had nine kills and eight digs for the Yotes, with
Jayde Folsom recording 21 assists and
Kilee Lopez had 14 digs.
C of I returns to action tomorrow with an afternoon match at Walla Walla.
