BUTTE, Mont. –
Brenna Meehan had 43 kills and 25 digs on the day, helping the College of Idaho complete a perfect 4-0 weekend at the Big Sky Volleyball Challenge with two wins today inside the Butte Civic Center.
Meehan had 20 kills and 17 digs in a come-from-behind five-set win over Montana Tech and blasted her way to 23 kills in a four-set victory over Montana Western.
In the morning match, the host Orediggers (6-2) grabbed the first two sets, only to see C of I storm back for the 18-25, 21-25, 25-22, 25-22, 15-12 win.
Tech used consecutive combo-blocks in a 6-1 Set 1 run to break open a 15-14 score to earn the set win and got a key three-point push to break a 19-19 tie in Set 2 to take the commanding two set lead in the match.
C of I (5-3) turned the tide in Set 3, as Meehan had six kills – including a pair in a 6-0 run to grab a 21-13 lead and eased to the win.
Jackie van Vliet led the way in Set 4, recording five kills and a solo block, as the Yotes used a 9-1 run to break an 11-11 tie to force the decisive set.
Set 5 had five ties – the last at 9-9 – before a pair of
Abbey Fenton kills started a 5-1 run to force match point, with van Vliet spiking home the winning point.
Fenton had 12 kills, van Vliet had 15 kills and five blocks and
Randi Sturtz had nine kills and five blocks for the Yotes.
Jayde Folsom had a career-high 61 assists and
Ashley Pagan had 11 kills and four of C of I's 10 aces in the victory.
Bailie Cortner led Tech with 16 kills and 10 blocks, with setter Makenzie Bauck recording 51 assists and 11 digs.
Following a short 30-minute break, the Yotes grinded out a 25-16, 17-25, 25-18, 25-17 over Western – just their third win all time against the Bulldogs (4-3).
Meehan dominated Set 1, recording seven kills – as C of I ran off 9-of-10 points to break a 10-10 tie and win the opening period. Western found their system in Set 2, as Cady Siemion had two kills in a 6-0 run – helping the Bulldogs extend a 16-15 lead to 22-15 and even the match.
C of I was in command the rest of the way – as Sturtz had a kill and two blocks in a five-point run to end Set 3, with the Yotes opening a 5-1 lead in Set 4 and were never headed – hitting at a .545 clip to close the match.
Alaina Slater had 10 kills, van Vliet recorded eight kills and Sturtz had seven kills without an attack error in the win. Folsom finished with 57 assists and
Kilee Lopez led all players with 18 digs.
Siemion led Western with 17 kills and 10 digs.
The Lady Yotes return to action next week, opening Cascade Conference play with road matches against Eastern Oregon and Walla Walla.
