LEWISTON, Idaho – Logan Griffin singled home the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning, as Lewis-Clark State completed a four-game sweep of the College of Idaho with a 10-9 victory at Harris Field.
The Yotes (27-14, 15-9 NAIA West) had rallied with a run in the seventh and two in the eighth to grab a 9-8 lead, but could not hold on.
Jacob Zanon opened the ninth by reaching on the third error of the day by C of I and scored on a J.J. Robinson single. Two outs later, Griffin doubled into the right-center gap to plate pinch runner Andris Rizquez to help the Warriors (34-5, 20-3) remain unbeaten at home.
C of I bolted to a 5-0 lead in the second inning – getting a two-run
Jake Hennessey double; a run on a Devin Pogue ground out; plated a run on a perfect squeeze bunt from
Sam Grise and added an RBI double from
Mitch Skaggs.
Gunnar Buhner got LCSC a pair back on a two-run double in the second, but C of I made it 6-2 in the fourth as Nate Hundley scored on an outfield error by the Warriors.
The Warriors pulled even in the fourth, taking advantage of two C of I errors and getting a second run-scoring double from Buhner. They added single runs in the fifth and sixth to take an 8-6 lead, only to watch the Yotes come right back – as Skaggs hit a solo homer in the seventh, his ninth of the year, with C of I getting an RBI single from
Jake Bowman and an RBI double from
Hunter Hanson in the eighth to grab a 9-8 lead.
Hennessey, Hanson and Skaggs each had two hits in the loss for the Yotes, with Buhner, Griffin and Julian Ramon all recording three hits for LC.
C of I continues their three-week road swing next weekend at Oregon Tech.
