CALDWELL, Idaho – Matthew Fish tossed six innings of shutout ball as Lewis-Clark State used a five-run fifth inning to top the College of Idaho, 8-4, in the series finale at Wolfe Field.
Fish allowed just four hits and struck out five in picking up his third win of the season for the Warriors (14-1), with Gunnar Buhner going 2-for-5 with three RBI and Micah Brown adding three hits and two RBI.
LCSC took advantage of an error in the first inning to prolong the frame, with Buhner gapping a two-out, two-run double, to get the visitors on the board. A Logan Griffin RBI single in the fourth extended the lead to 3-0, with the Warriors batting around in the fifth – as Robert Smith led off with a home run and Brown gapping a two-run double to right.
The Yotes (15-7) broke up the shutout in the eighth, stringing together four-straight singles – the last a two-run knock from
Mitch Skaggs. C of I would add two runs in the ninth – one on a wild pitch and another on a
Hunter Hanson two-out bad-hop RBI single – but Daulton Blackwell got the final out to close the game.
Smith finished 2-for-4 for the Warriors, with Hanson,
Cole Mansanarez and
Seth Champlin all recording two hits for C of I. Both
Drew Klassen and
Dalton Ridgway each logged two scoreless innings of relief for the Yotes.
The Coyotes return to action next weekend, traveling to Oregon Tech for a four-game weekend series.
