ASHLAND, Ore. – For 10 minutes, the College of Idaho was playing toe-to-toe with the Cascade Conference champions. Unfortunately, the No. 5 ranked Raiders answered the bell with a big second quarter to break away and top the Lady Yotes, 87-50, in a CCC quarterfinal at Mountain Avenue Gym.
SOU (27-1) advances to the conference semifinals on Friday vs. Northwest Christian, while Oregon Tech and Eastern Oregon play in the other semifinal.
Offense was at a premium in the first quarter, as neither team scored during the first five minutes, combining for 14 missed shots and six turnovers. The Yotes (9-18) got a pair of
Kiara Skinner free throws, a
Petra Lumpert lay-up and a
Jamiece Yizar jumper to take a 10-7 lead late in the period – with the Raiders pulling even at 10-10 at the close of the frame.
Southern turned to the 3-point shot to take command, as Majerle Reeves, Demi Sahlinger, Tiani Bradford and Ashley Claussen each hit triples in a five minute stretch that built a 26-14 lead, helping the Raiders take a 35-22 margin to the locker room.
The second half was all SOU, as Carly Meister logged back to back inside baskets to start a run, with Reeves splashing a trey to cap the 11-1 run to open the third quarter. The Raiders put the game away with an 18-5 run late in the fourth quarter.
Reeves led the Raiders with 18 points, connecting on 6-of-8 3-point attempts, with Courtney Setzer recording 16 points and nine rebounds. SOU finished 35-of-71 from the field, while making 10 3-point baskets.
Jaycin Tini led the Yotes with 13 points and nine rebounds; Skinner had 10 points and
Madison Pilster scored nine.
The game marked the final collegiate contest for six Lady Yote players –
