COLLEGE PLACE, Wash. –
Marck Coffin scored 12 points and added 12 rebounds, helping the College of Idaho hold Walla Walla University to 23-percent shooting from the floor in a 57-43 victory at Windemuth Court.
The win for the Coyotes (17-12, 12-8 CCC) secures the No. 4 seed in the Cascade Conference Tournament and will host Oregon Tech at 7 p.m. on Wednesday night. General Admission tickets will go on sale Sunday morning at
YoteAthletics.com, with reserved season ticket holders having until Monday at midnight to secure their seats.
C of I struggled to get a rhythm in the opening half, going 1-for-14 from outside the arc in the period. Luckily, the Coyote defense was up for the task - limiting the Wolves (4-24, 2-18) to 4-of-28 shooting from the field. Leading just 15-14, the Yotes got back-to-back baskets in the paint from
Dominic Hulsey and a put-back bucket from
Andrew Bruce to push the lead to 22-16 at halftime - as the C of I bench outscored its starters 14-8.
Early in the second half, C of I used an 8-0 run, fueled by consecutive Coffin put back baskets, to extend the margin to 37-23.
Aitor Zubizarreta canned three late 3-pointers to ice the victory.
Zubizarreta had 11 points, five rebounds and five assists, with
Joey Nebeker scoring 11 points with six rebounds.
Trevor Thomas provided a spark off the bench with eight points and four rebounds, with Hulsey scoring six.
No WWU player scored in double figures, with Ethan Osias, Chad Torkelson and Ryan Spady all scoring eight. It marked the fewest points scored by a C of I opponent and the lowest field goal percentage by a Coyote foe since an 88-30 win over Walla Walla in November of 2011.
