OLYMPIA, Wash. – A 19-0 second half run broke open a close game, as the College of Idaho won their fourth game in a row, cruising past the Evergreen State College, 84-60, inside Costantino Recreation Center.
Roosevelt Adams had 16 points and a season-high 14 rebounds for the No. 24 ranked Yotes (11-4, 4-1 CCC) who were led by associate head coach
Colby Blaine – as head coach
Scott Garson did not make the trip as he remained home awaiting the birth of his first child.
A Dalton Groenewold triple pulled the Geoducks (5-7, 2-4) within 48-47 at the 14:43 mark of the second half – but Evergreen would not score for the next seven minutes, missing seven consecutive shots, with the Coyotes forcing five turnovers.
A baseline jumper from
Aitor Zubizarreta, a put-back bucket from
Chris Vines and a
Joey Nebeker lay-up started the run, with back-to-back treys from Zubizarreta and
Dominique Jordan extending the lead to 60-47.
Emanuel Morgan added to the margin with a steal and basket, followed by five-straight points from
Aziz Leeks to extend the lead to 20.
The Geoducks opened the game quickly, making five of their first seven shots, as a Jonathan Jack-Nixon runner giving TESC a 15-6 lead. C of I answered with a 19-3 run – including 10 points from Adams, to take a 27-20 lead, with the Yotes taking a 37-36 lead into halftime.
Leeks had 13 points and nine rebounds and Morgan had 11 points in the victory. Zubizarreta scored 10 points and freshman
Jake Bruner scored a career-high 10 points – as C of I made 54-percent of their second half attempts.
Shawn Spencer had 11 points to lead the Geoducks, with C of I limiting leading scorer Taylor Drey to just six points – while limiting TESC to 29-percent shooting in the second half.
The Coyotes return to action tomorrow night, traveling to No. 13 Northwest University. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. (PT) – with the game carried live online at NUEagles.com.
