CALDWELL, Idaho –
Jamiece Yizar scored a pair of goals and
Brittany Houghton had seven saves in picking up her eighth career shutout as the College of Idaho ended a three match losing streak with a 3-0 win over Northwest Christian at Simplot Stadium.
The Lady Yotes (5-5, 1-4 CCC) evened their overall record with the win – heading out on a road trip next week to Warner Pacific and Eastern Oregon. The victory was their first in new pink uniforms to draw awareness to Breast Cancer research.
C of I scored a pair of first half goals – recording their first lead at home this season. Yizar took a through-ball from
Katelyn Benavidez in the 23rd minute and beat NCU (4-9-1, 1-5-1 CCC) keeper Mackenzie Galick in a 1-on-1 opportunity – slotting home the opening goal.
Just before halftime,
Victoria Cerda collected a redirected corner kick and touched a pass to an unmarked
Maddie Brown, who ripped a shot into the left corner of the net for a 2-0 lead.
The Yotes put the game away in the 74th minute, as Benavidez had a free kick turned away by Galick, but Yizar collected the rebound and found the open net to add to the C of I lead – her 26th career goal.
C of I finished with a 13-10 edge in total shots – with both teams putting seven shots on frame and each recording seven corner kicks.
