ASHLAND, Ore. – Makena Totushek drove home a rebound of a shot in the 65th minute, lifting Southern Oregon to a 1-0 victory over the College of Idaho at Raider Stadium.
The Raiders (12-4-1, 9-1 CCC) pulled even with Carroll College atop the Cascade Conference table and can claim their first-ever league title with a win or draw tomorrow vs. Rocky Mountain.
The Lady Yotes (7-6-2, 3-5-2) had their five match unbeaten streak snapped and will need a tie or win at Oregon Tech tomorrow (or a loss or draw by either Northwest Christian or Evergreen), to claim a playoff berth.
SOU held a 7-3 edge in first half shots, but it was a drive by the Yotes
Jamiece Yizar in the 27th minute that banged off the cross bar – the best scoring chance in the period for either team.
After the break, the Raiders went on the offensive, getting five early cracks on goal, finally scoring off a set piece. Lisa Elledge played a corner into the area, with a Megan McArthur shot blocked by the Yotes. Totushek was in the right spot, collecting the loose ball and hammering home the lone goal of the game.
C of I had a couple late opportunities, but a
Maddie Brown shot in the 87th minute went wide and a
Sabrina Mallett attack inside the final minute was stuffed by SOU keeper Kylie Moltzen.
SOU held an 18-7 edge in total shots and had nine of the 11 corner kicks in the match.
