Box Score ASHLAND, Ore. – Paul Matyas scored a pair of goals and Kelly Gieber recorded three assists, as Southern Oregon defeated the College of Idaho, 4-1, this afternoon at Raider Stadium.
The Raiders (11-2-2, 9-1-2 CCC) remained in the league title chase with the home victory, scoring less than a minute into the match, as Gieber played a cross from right of the goal to Ahman Afenegus, who flicked home the winner just 35 seconds in.
SOU added to the lead in the 14th minute, as Matyas low drive from 10-yards out snuck inside the left post. The hosts would tack on a pair of early goals after the break, as Travis Hopkins skipped in a 15-yard shot just inside the near post, while Matyas made it 4-0 after heading home a corner in the 56th minute.
The Yotes (4-11, 3-9) averted the shutout in the 60th minute, as
Mehmed Selimovic blasted home a free kick from just outside the area.
The hosts had a 15-9 edge in shots and a 3-2 lead in corner kicks. C of I had just two shots on goal during the match, with Southern keeper Jonathan Morales making one save, while the Yotes
Grant Billings stopped five shots.
C of I closes out the season tomorrow with a Noon (PDT) match at Oregon Tech.
