CALDWELL, Idaho – A 17-0 run to open the third quarter broke open a 9-point game, as No. 8 ranked Southern Oregon won their 16th game in a row, stopping the College of Idaho, 76-50, inside the J.A. Albertson Activities Center.
Box Score The Raiders (16-0, 9-0 CCC) forced 33 turnovers in the victory, outscoring C of I 37-2 off miscues – including eight points in the game changing run.
SOU got a 3-point play and a put back bucket from post Carly Meister in a 12-2 run in the first three minutes of the game. The Lady Yotes (4-11, 3-6) cut the deficit to 20-14 late in the first quarter and trailed just 33-24 at the break.
Unfortunately for the hosts, Southern forced six missed shots and eight turnovers during the first five minutes of the third quarter to take command. Back-to-back baskets by Ashley Claussen pushed the lead to 39-24, with a third Claussen runner giving SOU a 44-24 lead. The margin would grow to 56-26 on a pair of Courtney Setzer free throws late in the period.
C of I did not quit, as a pair of
Petra Lumpert treys, along with a Lumpert steal and basket, cut the deficit to 66-46 midway through the fourth quarter, but SOU's lead proved too much.
Claussen led the Raiders with 21 points, six rebounds and six of SOU's 23 steals. Meister had 16 points and seven rebounds; Autumn Durand had nine points and nine rebounds; with Toria Bradford scoring two points with seven steals.
Lumpert had 15 points and five rebounds for the Yotes, making 3-of-4 3-point attempts, with
Kiara Skinner scoring 12 points with five blocks.
Madison Pilster scored eight points for C of I and
Ashleigh Blalock scored six points and tied a career-high with seven rebounds.
The Lady Yotes return to action tomorrow night, hosting Oregon Tech at 5:30 p.m.
