CALDWELL, Idaho – Randi Sturtz led a balanced College of Idaho attack with eight kills and Jackie van Vliet added seven blocks, as the Lady Yotes rolled to a three-set win over Walla Walla University inside the J.A. Albertson Activities Center.
C of I (3-7, 1-1 CCC) recorded a season-high .341 hitting percentage the victory, spoiling the Wolves first-ever Cascade Conference match.
The Yotes got a kill and a block from both Sturtz and van Vliet in an 8-1 surge in Set 1 to break away from a 9-8 score, getting three team blocks in the period win.
Two kills each by Abbey Fenton and Sturtz in an early 10-3 run in Set 2 helped the Yotes cruise, as C of I hit a .379 percentage in the frame.
WWU (3-3, 0-1) took their only lead of the match on the opening point of Set 3, but the Coyotes turned the tables quickly. Three Taylor Little kills and two more from Sturtz helped the Yotes run off 10 of the next 13 points, extending the margin to 23-9 on two more Little spikes, as C of I completed their second three-set win of 2015.
Fenton and Kylie Porter each recorded six kills; Katy Robinson, Alaina Slater, and van Vliet all had five kills; Sierra Porter had 18 assists and seven digs; with Cheyan Coburn leading all players with 20 digs.
Lexi Shanko led the Wolves with seven kills; Alyssa Casey had 13 assists; with Rylee Sutton leading WWU with 11 digs.
The Yotes return to action next weekend with road matches at Northwest Christian and Corban.
