SALEM, Ore. - A 22-kill night from Amber Parker was enough for Corban University to end an 11-year drought against the College of Idaho, as the Warriors defeated the Yotes in four sets inside the C.E. Jeffers Center.
Corban (3-7, 1-3 CCC), who last defeated C of I in October of 2004, earned a tight 25-27, 25-23, 25-19, 25-16 victory.
The loss for the Lady Yotes (4-8, 2-2) overshadowed a career night from Kylie Porter, who recorded 21 kills. However, 30 hitting errors plagued C of I.
The Coyotes were seemingly in command of Set 1, scoring seven consecutive points on Emilee Chapman's serve, including a pair of big kills from Katy Robinson. Â Corban countered with five Victoria Schroeder kills to chip away at the margin, staving off two set points to take a 25-24 lead on a Yote hitting error. Â C of I responded, getting kills from Abbey Fenton and Porter, and a Porter-Randi Sturtz combo-block to earn the set win.
Set 2 was the complete opposite, as Corban sprinted to an 8-2 lead only to see the Yotes storm back on the strength of five Porter kills to take a 19-17 lead. Â The Warriors turned the tide with a combo-block and three-straight Madison McLean aces, scoring seven of the next eight points, ending the period with a Katy Paratore kill.
Four C of I errors aided an 8-2 Warriors rally in Set 3, helping the hosts build a 16-11 lead that they wouldn't relinquish, while back-to-back blocks in a Set 4 run by Corban allowed the squad to pull away to earn the win.
Paratore had 12 kills and Schroeder added nine for the Warriors, who hit at a .328 clip. McLean had a match-high 50 assists and Haley Wells recorded 16 digs.
Porter eclipsed the 20 kill mark for the first time in her career, adding three blocks. Â Fenton had nine kills; Robinson recorded eight kills; with Sierra Porter leading the squad with 27 assists and 10 digs.
The Lady Yotes return home next weekend for Homecoming, hosting Evergreen on Friday and Northwest on Saturday. Â Both matches are set for 7 p.m.
