CALDWELL, Idaho – Randi Sturtz smashed 13 kills and Sierra Porter had a three-set career-high with 47 assists, as the College of Idaho rolled to a home victory over the Evergreen State College inside the J.A. Albertson Activities Center.
The Lady Yotes (5-8, 3-2 CCC) recorded 51 kills in the 25-17, 25-20, 26-24 victory over the Geoducks, C of I's 23rd win in a row against the Washington school.
Evergreen (2-9, 2-4) came out quickly in Set 1, as three of Jorden Porter's 15 kills gave the visitors a 6-2 lead. C of I countered in a big way to earn the set win, getting three Kylie Porter kills in a 12-2 rally that turned the tide, with the margin ballooning to 21-10 on a Sturtz-Jackie van Vliet combo-block.
Set 2 featured 10 ties and three lead changes, with three-straight Sturtz spikes highlighting a five-point C of I push, as the Yotes built a 13-8 edge. The Geoducks whittled down the deficit, tying the score at 16-16 on a Natalie Taylor kill and were within 20-19 on a second Taylor kill. However, a Sierra Porter kill on a second-contact attack started a 5-1 run to end the period, with Sturtz ending the set with a kill.
In Set 3, the Yotes built a 23-20 lead on a Sturtz kill, only to see the Geoducks get a kill from Jorden Porter, a C of I attack error, and a Kylie Kytan kill after a spirited rally, to draw even. After back-to-back side outs tied the score for a 14th time in the set, Kylie Porter ended the match with two straight kills.
Kylie Porter and Abbey Fenton each had 11 kills for the Yotes, with Sierra Porter's 47 assists the most in a three-set match by a C of I setter since the 2011 season. Van Vliet led all players with four blocks, with Kilee Lopez recording 16 digs.
Jorden Porter led the Geoducks with 15 kills; Kelsey Delagrange had 28 assists and eight digs, with Taylor recording 10 digs.
C of I returns to action tomorrow night, hosting Northwest University at 7 p.m.
