Golden Goal Lifts Lady Yotes Past Whitman

CALDWELL, Idaho – Summer Jackson buried a rebound blast into the net in the 105th minute, lifting the College of Idaho past Whitman College, 1-0, before 305 fans at Simplot Stadium.

The overtime win helped the Lady Yotes (3-0) to their best start since 1993 and secured their first home win in an extra session since 2011.

The "Golden Goal" was set up by a free kick from 40 yards out by Hailey Woods that clanged off the crossbar, with the rebound finding the foot of Jackson two steps into the box.  The junior ripped a liner into the left corner of the net to set off a celebration.

C of I nearly scored in the opening 30 seconds of the match, as Jamiece Yizar played a through-ball to Erika Thompson, but Thompson was stuffed in a 1-on-1 chance by Missionaries (0-1) keeper Cassidy Brewin.

Though the Yotes had the run of the pitch for the majority of the game, good chances were few and far between.  Late in regulation, Bri Blair hammered a 10-yard shot into the net, but the tally was disallowed due to an offsides flag.

Whitman had their best chance in the first overtime, getting back to back corner kicks, but the C of I defense held their own.  Yotes keeper Brittany Houghton turned away four shots on goal for the shutout win.

C of I held a 16-8 edge in total shots and a 6-5 edge in corner kicks.  The two teams combined for 23 fouls.

The Yotes return to action on Friday, meeting Trinity Lutheran in a neutral site match in McMinnville, Ore.
