PORTLAND, Ore. - Blake Evetts tossed a complete game seven hitter, as Concordia University defeated the College of Idaho, 7-1, in an elimination game at the NAIA West Grouping Championships.
The win moves CU (31-22) into the championship game against British Columbia, while the Yotes (33-26) saw their season ended three wins shy of a berth to the NAIA National Championships.
C of I opened the scoring in the third, as Brady Mooney doubled off the right field wall, scoring on a bloop RBI single from Jake Hennessey.  However, Evetts settled down from there, not allowing a runner to third base until the eighth, when the Yotes loaded the bases with no outs - but the Cavs turned a triple play to get out of the jam  - their first since 1999.
The Cavaliers took the lead in the fourth - stringing together four hits - including RBI knocks from Konner Reddick and Nate Esposito. Â CU made it 3-1 in the fifth on a Jordan Spencer RBI single, breaking the game open in the sixth with a four run frame - including a two-run Cole Crosby double.
Evetts walked just one batter and fanned five to pick up his ninth win, with Esposito going 3-for-4 for the Cavs.
Mitch Viydo tossed five-plus innings in his final collegiate start for the Yotes, allowing all seven runs, with Hennessey recording two hits in the loss.
