LEWISTON, Idaho – Nick Sagendorf tossed eight innings of four-hit ball, striking out nine, helping Lewis-Clark State salvage a series split with the College of Idaho, topping the Yotes, 5-1, at Harris Field.
A four-run third inning gave the Warriors (27-9, 12-4 NAIA West) all the support Sagendorf needed, as he limited the Yotes to just one hit over his final five innings.
C of I (25-15, 9-7) took a 1-0 lead in the third, as Jake Hennessey reached on an error, scoring after back-to-back singles from Chase Miller and Jordan Grubbs.
LCSC answered in the bottom of the inning, loading the bases with no outs on three consecutive Gary Koopman walks. A C of I error allowed two runs to score, with Michael Sexton delivering an RBI ground out and Julian Ramon lifted a sacrifice fly to make it 4-1. The hosts would tack on an unearned insurance run in the seventh to cap the scoring.
The two teams combined for just eight hits, with L-C's Seth Brown going 2-for-2 to extend his hit streak to 22. On the flip side, C of I's Cole Mansanerez saw his consecutive games reaching base streak snapped at 34.
The Yotes return to action on Wednesday, hosting Whitman College in a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m.
