EUGENE, Ore. – Taking advantage of eight Northwest Christian errors, the College of Idaho cruised to a 7-1 victory in Game 1 of today's doubleheader at James Park.
After a 40 minute rain delay, Game 2 was suspended in the ninth inning with the two teams tied at 10-10. A date to resume the contest has not been announced.
The Lady Yotes (16-21, 7-8 CCC) took a 2-0 lead in the third inning – as a two-out error allowed Destiny Campbell to reach base. The outfielder stole second and took third when the throw sailed into center field. After a walk to Destiny Turner, the tandem executed a double steal to plate C of I's first run. After a Katie Rowe infield single, the Yotes tried the same play, with Ashlee Cole's throw eluding the second base bag, allowing Turner to trot home.
NCU (9-24, 6-9) got a run back in the bottom of the inning on a two-out RBI single from Addy Hoskins, but the Yotes broke the game wide open in the fourth. Four Beacon miscues in the frame allowed five C of I runs to score.
It was more than enough for Cortni Pena, who worked around seven hits for the victory. Courtney Ellis was 3-for-4, with Rowe extending her hit streak to 11 games with a 2-for-3 game.
The Yotes built leads of 4-0 and 6-4 in Game 2, but NCU used a five-run fifth to take a 9-6 advantage. Down to their field three outs, C of I answered the call, as a Rickey Kamimae two-run double tied the game, and an Ellis RBI fielders' choice giving the Yotes a 10-9 lead. The Beacons, however, forced extra innings, when Parker Bonife clubbed a solo homer in the bottom of the inning.
The game will resume with a runner at first for the Yotes and two outs in the ninth. Alexis Macias had four hits and four RBI before the game was suspended.
C of I returns to action tomorrow morning, traveling to No. 24 Corban at 11 a.m. (PT)
