PORTLAND, Ore. – Katelin Downes scored on a passed ball with two outs in the bottom of the tenth inning, helping Northwest Christian to an 11-10 victory over the College of Idaho at Clackamas Community College.
The two teams met in the Rose City after a nine-day break after the contest was suspended in the ninth inning on April 3 due to rain.
After the Yotes squandered chances in the ninth and tenth innings, NCU took advantage of a pair of C of I miscues to earn a season split. Downes singled to lead off the tenth and moved to second on a two-out walk to Kaeli Massetto. The duo moved up on a C of I passed ball, with Downes scoring the game-winner when a Cortni Pena pitch glanced off catcher Hailey Chambers glove.
The Lady Yotes had chances in both innings today – stranding runners at first and second in the ninth and the bases loaded in the tenth.
Prior to the rain last Friday, the Yotes used a four-run seventh inning rally to take a 10-9 lead, only to see the Beacons Parker Bonife hit a solo homer in the bottom of the frame to force extra innings.
Bonife was 3-for-4 with five RBI in the win for NCU, while Alexis Macias was 4-for-5 with three RBI for the Yotes.
C of I closes out the regular season next weekend, hosting Oregon Tech and Southern Oregon.
