PORTLAND, Ore. - Destiny Turner became the College of Idaho's single-season doubles leader with a two-base hit in each game, but Concordia University's offensive firepower proved too much, as the Cavaliers swept a doubleheader from the Lady Yotes at Delta Park.
Concordia (34-12, 15-5 CCC) erased 5-0 deficits in both games, stopping the Yotes 6-5 and 13-5, to complete a season sweep. Â C of I (16-27, 7-14) has now lost six in a row.
Turner was 5-for-6 in the two games, with her 16th double of the season, a fourth inning line drive into the gap in Game 2, breaking Katie Zillner's school record from the 2007 season. Alexis Macias was 5-for-6 as well, driving in four runs, but it wasn't enough to stop the Cavaliers.
Â
Turner plated Destiny Campbell with her first double of the day in the first inning of Game 1 to give C of I a 1-0 lead. In the fourth, Macias lined her 16th career home run, a laser over the left field wall, extending the lead to 3-0. An RBI double by Kristin Paulazzo and an RBI single by Campbell gave the Yotes a 5-0 lead.
Â
After being limited to just three hits through four innings, CU exploded in the fifth. Mariah Jimenez led off with a home run, then took advantage of a two-out C of I error to plate five unearned runs. Taylor Bussey hit a three-run homer, with Jimenez giving the hosts the lead with a two-run single.
Â
The Yotes had a chance in the seventh, loading the bases with one out, but a strikeout and a great defensive play by Destinee Chang on a Rickey Kamimae ground ball closed out the contest.
Â
Game 2 was almost identical, as a Katie Rowe first inning two-run homer gave C of I the early advantage, while an inning later, a Rowe RBI single and a two-run single from Macias gave the Yotes a five-run cushion.
Â
The Cavs answered with the long ball, as Jimenez hit her second homer of the day, a two-run shot, in the second, with Renee Santos launching a two-run homer in the third to get CU within 5-4. An inning later, CU brought 12 batters to the plate, scoring nine runs to break open the tight game. Bussey gave the Cavaliers the lead with a two-run single, with Sam Owirka providing the big blow, a grand slam home run that gave the squad a 13-5 lead.
Â
Tori Muir got the win, throwing three innings of shutout ball, with Bussey and Santos each recording two hits. Rowe was 2-for-3 in the loss for C of I
Â
The Yotes return to action tomorrow with an 11 a.m. doubleheader at Northwest University.
