Macias Homers Twice in Lady Yotes Split at Northwest

KIRKLAND, Wash. – Alexis Macias went 5-for-8 with two homers and five RBI, helping the College of Idaho to a doubleheader split at Northwest University.

The Eagles (11-21, 7-17 CCC) hit three home runs in a 10-7 Game 1 victory, before the Yotes hung on for a 4-2 win in Game 2.

In the opener, the Coyotes (17-28, 8-15) took a 1-0 first inning lead on a Destiny Turner RBI double, one of three hits for her in the contest.

Courtney Cox answered in the second, tying the game with an RBI single, with NU taking the lead in the third on a Savannah Rush two-run blast.

C of I regained the lead with a three-run third, as Turner hit a solo homer; a run scored on an NU error; and a Kristin Paulazzo ground out made it 4-3.

The Eagles countered in the bottom of the inning, with a Ricki Tacdol two-run single giving the hosts a 6-4 lead.  A Cox two-run homer in the sixth made it 10-4, before a Macias three-run shot in the seventh gave C of I hope, but Kelli Peckham got the final out to pick up her fifth win of the year.

Turner was 3-for-4 and Macias was 2-for-4 for the Yotes in the loss, with Cox going 3-for-4 with three RBI for the Eagles.

In Game 2, NU took advantage of three first inning C of I errors to plate a run, but the Yotes tied the score on a second inning Destiny Campbell single.

Macias gave the Yotes the lead for good, launching a solo homer in the third, while adding an RBI double in the fifth to make it 3-1.  The Eagles got a run back in the sixth on a Makayla Scoggins RBI single and nearly tied the score, but left fielder Courtney Ellis threw out Janey Ganta at home plate, trying to score on a fly ball out, to end the inning.

C of I tacked on a run in the seventh on a Katie Rowe RBI single, with Julia Rambo getting the final five outs for her first save.

Ali Longoria worked five plus innings to pick up the win, allowing just one earned run on six hits, with Macias going 3-for-4 in the victory.

C of I continues their road journey tomorrow in Portland, Ore., meeting Northwest Christian at noon in the conclusion of a suspended game from April 3.  The game will resume in the top of the ninth inning with the score tied 10-10, with C of I batting with a runner on first and two outs.
