CALDWELL, Idaho – Cortni Pena went 2-for-4 on the day with a three-run home run, while picking up her sixth win of the season as the No. 21 ranked College of Idaho split a pair of games with Corban University at Symms Field.
The Lady Yotes (9-13, 1-1 CCC) got off to a quick start in Game 1, scoring in the bottom half of the first inning on an Alexis Macias single to left field. Chelsea Szymanski provided an insurance run in the fourth with a single to shortstop that scored Madison Cushing.
Pena helped her own cause in the fifth, blasting a three-run shot to deep left-center to push the advantage to 5-0.
The Warriors (17-5, 1-1) finally got on the board in the final frame of Game 1, despite leaving nine runners stranded through the first six innings.
Game 2 was a much different story on the offensive side for C of I as Jessica Holsinger allowed just two hits, struck out six, and walked one Lady Yote en route to a complete game shutout. The Warriors scored six runs on seven hits in the series finale.
Corban combined for 16 walks and left 26 runners on base for the double header; C of I walked just four times and left 11 runners stranded.
The Lady Yotes will be back in action tomorrow when they play host to Northwest Christian for a double-header beginning at 11 a.m.
