Lewis-Clark State Blanks Coyotes 8-0

CALDWELL, Idaho – Beau Kerns tossed a complete game three-hitter to lead No. 2 ranked Lewis-Clark State to an 8-0 victory over the College of Idaho in the final game of the Treasure Valley Collegiate Baseball Icebreaker at Wolfe Field.

Kerns faced just one batter above the minimum and did not allow a runner in scoring position, helping the Warriors (3-1) become the lone squad in the five-team tournament to finish with just one loss.  The right-hander walked just one batter and struck out seven, helping his own cause by picking off a pair of runners from first base.

Making his C of I (3-5) debut, Gary Koopman matched Kerns pitch-for-pitch through the first five innings, getting double play balls in the first and second to work out of threats, while stranding a pair of L-C runners in each of the next three innings.

The Warriors finally broke through in the sixth, as Seth Brown golfed a leadoff solo home run to right.  L-C put the game away against three different C of I relievers as Ty Jackson tripled home a pair in the seventh and Brown cleared the bases with a double in the eighth.

Brown went 3-for-4 with four RBI in the win for LCSC, with Andris Rizquez and Cabe Reitan each recording two hits.

Koopman took the loss for the Yotes, despite going six innings, allowing just one run on five hits, striking out five.

C of I continues their home stand on Friday, starting a four game weekend series with Saint Martin's, with first pitch set for 2 p.m.
