Yotes Drop Opener of Treasure Valley Icebreaker

CALDWELL, Idaho – Jason Snodgrass took a perfect game into the sixth inning, helping Concordia University to an 8-3 victory over the College of Idaho at the Treasure Valley Collegiate Baseball Icebreaker at Wolfe Field.

Snodgrass retired the first 17 men he faced, including six strikeouts, before Zach Fabricius broke up the bid with a ringing single into center field.  The right-hander finished with a 4-hitter, picking up his first win of 2015.

The Cavs (2-0) took advantage of three C of I errors in the first four innings to take a 4-0 lead.  Nate Esposito singled home a run in the first, Adam Taylor and Cole Crosby logged back-to-back run scoring singles in the second, with Cosby gapping an RBI triple in the fourth.

The Yotes (1-4) made it a one-run game in the seventh, loading the bases with two outs, with Jordan Grubbs clearing the bags with a triple off the top of the right field wall.  However, Snodgrass buckled down, striking out Jake Hennessey to end the threat.

CU added four insurance runs in the eighth, with Hunter Weiss providing the big blow, lining a two-run single through a drawn-in infield to give the Cavs breathing room.

Esposito, Crosby, and Ian Erickson each had two hits, part of a 12-hit Cavalier attack.

Kyle Garvin threw well in a losing cause for the Yotes, allowing just two earned runs and striking out four in seven innings.  No C of I player had more than one hit in the contest.

Earlier in the day, Concordia used a 7-run seventh inning to stun No. 2 ranked Lewis-Clark State, 13-7.  CU pounded out 18 hits, including a 4-for-4 effort by Jarren Goddard and three hits and three RBI by Esposito.

Action on Day 2 at Wolfe Field begins at 10:30 a.m. with C of I meeting British Columbia, followed by Lewis-Clark State against the same UBC team at 2 p.m.
