HAPPY VALLEY, Ore. – Jodie Hoagland and Destiny Turner each had three hits on the afternoon, helping the College of Idaho to a split of games at the Northwest Cup at Hood View Park.
The Lady Yotes (4-8) opened with a 9-2 victory over Carroll College, but lost their late game, 5-0, to British Columbia.
In Game 1, a two out, two-run double by Hoagland capped a three-run second inning outburst for C of I, giving the squad a lead it would not relinquish.
After the Saints (1-2) pulled within a run in the second on a Kinley Pope RBI single, C of I turned to Cortni Pena, who tossed five shutout innings of relief for the win.
C of I scored a run on a CC error in the third; got a Turner sacrifice fly in the fourth; then tacked on four runs in the sixth – taking advantage of two errors – to break the game open.
Six different Lady Yotes had one hit in the win, while Megan Gipe and Maddie Jones had two hits for the Saints.
Game 2 was dominated by UBC's Lindsey Ogilive, who tossed a six-hit shutout to top the Yotes.
The T-Birds plated a run in the first on a Kelly Rumley RBI single, and then made it 3-0 in the third thanks to a Cherise Change RBI single and a bases-loaded walk to Frances Ramsay.
It was more than enough for Ogilive, who pitched to contact all afternoon – as she stranded C of I runners in scoring position in the first, second, third, and fifth innings.
Hoagland and Turner each were 2-for-4 in the loss for C of I.
The Lady Yotes close out tournament play tomorrow with games vs. Saint Martin's and Simpson.
