CALDWELL, Idaho – Elisha Hensey scored 21 points and Haylee Burnham canned five 3-pointers, helping the College of Idaho clinch a postseason berth with a 66-53 victory over Corban University inside the J.A. Albertson Activities Center.
The Lady Yotes (8-17, 7-9 CCC) used a trio of big runs in the game to clinch their 16th straight trip to the playoffs. C of I vaulted into a tie for fifth-place in the loop standings and can clinch a quarterfinal home game with a pair of wins on their final road trip to Northwest and Evergreen, along with an Evergreen loss to Eastern Oregon.
The two teams traded early runs – C of I getting seven quick points, including a Burnham triple to take a 16-9 lead at the 13 minute mark of the period. The Warriors (17-12, 11-6) countered with 3-pointers from Sadie Pilgerim and Haley Holboke in a 12-2 surge to take their final lead at 21-18.
Hensey tied it with a trey for the Yotes, with Burnham adding back-to-back triples, as the Yotes scored 13 of the next 14 points – and never trailed again.
Leading 39-28 at the break, C of I watched as Jade Lowery canned a 3-pointer and a jumper, with Julia Young draining a basket to get the Warriors within four. However, buckets from Brittany Wirth and Burnham, and a 3-pointer from Aleah Lowber extended the margin back to 11 – with the lead remaining at nine or more points the rest of the way.
Hensey, one of four seniors for the Yotes, had four rebounds, four assists and three steals in the win, with Burnham scoring 17 points for C of I. Lowber had five points and four assists in her final game at home, with Jessica Aguilar scoring four and Jenna Wiskus adding a 3-pointer early in the night.
Pilgerim and Lowery led the Warriors with 12 points, as C of I limited Corban to 36-percent shooting from the field and forced 15 turnovers.
C of I closes out the regular-season next Friday at Evergreen and next Saturday at Northwest.
