REDDING, Calif. - The College of Idaho went 1-2 on the opening day of the Simpson Invitational at Big League Dreams Park.
The Lady Yotes (3-2) opened with a 4-2 victory over William Jessup, the dropped a 5-3 decision to Biola and a tough 5-4, eight inning contest to San Diego Christian.
Against William Jessup, Cortni Pena tossed a three-hitter, with the Yotes rallying from a 2-0 deficit after four innings for the win. Â Destiny Campbell got C of I within a run in the fifth with an RBI single, while a Warriors error in the sixth plated the tying run. Â In the seventh, Alexis Macias launched a two-run home run to provide the difference.
Destiny Turner, Rickey Kamimae, and Campbell all had two hits for the Yotes.
In the middle game, Selina Shelton hit a two-run homer, part of a three-run fourth inning rally for the No. 14 ranked Eagles, to break a 2-2 tie. The Yotes had tied the score in the top of the inning on a Turner two-run double, but Biola quickly regained the lead. Â C of I had a chance in the sixth, scoring a run on a Julia Rambo single, but left the bases loaded. Â
Jodie Hoagland was 2-for-3 with two run scored for the Yotes.
In the night game, SDCC won the game in the eighth inning on a walk-off wild pitch, scoring Nicole Whitney from third.
A second inning two-run triple by Hoagland got C of I even, while a Kamimae RBI single and a double steal evened the score at 4-4 in the fifth. Â The Yotes had a chance to break the deadlock in the top of the eighth, putting runners at first and thrid with no outs, but did not score.
Hoagland, Campbell, and Kamimae all had two hits in the loss.
C of I returns to action tomorrow, with three additional games at the tournament.
