Coffin Scores 24 in Road Loss at Corban

SALEM, Ore. – A career-high night by Marck Coffin was not enough for the College of Idaho, as Corban University held off a second half Coyote rally to earn a 93-88 victory inside C.E. Jeffers Center.

Box Score

The Warriors (6-5, 2-2 CCC) got a game-high 35 points from guard A.J. Monterossi to earn their first win over C of I since the 2012-13 season.

Corban used a 9-0 run to end the first half, capped by a 3-point play by Monterossi with two seconds remaining, to give the hosts a 51-44 lead at the break.  The margin would grow to 59-47 early in the second half before the Yotes (7-6, 2-2) would respond.  Back-to-back 3-pointers from Dominique Jordan and Aitor Zubizarreta, followed by a put-back bucket from Jalyn Turner got C of I within 64-63.

The hosts answered behind Monterossi, scoring seven points in an 11-2 run to extend the lead to 10 points with five minutes to play, only to see Emanuel Morgan score eight points in a row to pull C of I within 88-86 with 58 seconds left.  The Yotes looked to have recorded a defensive stop on Corban's next possession after a Monterossi miss, but Cyrus Ward grabbed one of his 10 rebounds and converted a lay-up that sealed the victory.

Monterossi was 10-of-13 from the foul line and added six rebounds in the win, with Ward scoring 16 points.  The Warriors made 55-percent of their field goals and had a 47-33 edge on the glass.

Coffin drained three mid-range jumpers in a row early in the first half as the Yotes built a 28-20 lead.  The senior finished 10-of-17 from the floor and added three 3-point baskets.  Joey Nebeker had 19 points and seven rebounds, with Morgan scoring 17 points and recording a game-high six assists.

C of I steps aside from league play next Monday, traveling to Salt Lake City for an exhibition game against the University of Utah – who outlasted Duke in overtime this afternoon in New York.
