NAMPA, Idaho – A 16-2 second quarter run broke open a tight game, as Northwest Nazarene defeated the College of Idaho, 78-65, in an exhibition game at the Johnson Sports Center.
Box Score NNU (2-6) used a 15-6 edge on the offensive glass and forced 29 turnovers in the home win, as four players scored in double figures for the Crusaders.
The rivals played a back-and-forth first quarter, featuring four ties and six lead changes, before the Lady Yotes (2-6) got back-to-back buckets from
Ryleigh Swagerty early in the second period to take a 20-19 lead. The Crusaders took charge, getting four free throws from Ellie Logan and a pair of baskets each from CoCo Gall and Danielle Jardine the big surge – pushing the lead to 35-22 with four minutes left in the half.
The lead would grow to 50-32 with seven minutes left in the third quarter before the Yotes responded. Five quick points from
Petra Lumpert started a run and a jumper and four free throws from
Madison Pilster capped the 16-5 run that got C of I within 55-48 in the waning moments of the period.
The Crusaders, however, forced consecutive turnovers, ending with McKenna Walker lay-ups, starting a 10-0 run that put the game away.
Walker led NNU with 13 points, with Logan and Kate Cryderman each scoring 12. The Crusaders made 27-of-32 free throws in the victory.
Lumpert led all scorers with 23 points, including 12-of-13 shooting from the foul line. Pilster had 13 points and five steals, with Swagerty scoring 13 points with four rebounds.
The Lady Yotes return to action this weekend, opening the Cascade Conference road schedule with games at Northwest Christian and Corban.
