CALDWELL, Idaho – College of Idaho celebrated Senior Day with goals from Tyrell Johnson and Andres Idoeta in their final game at Simplot Stadium, leading the Yotes to a 2-0 victory over Eastern Oregon.
Photo Gallery - Eastern Oregon at C of I The Yotes (7-4, 6-4 CCC) bolstered their playoff chances with the victory in their first-ever game against their I-84 rivals, as the nine C of I senior student-athletes went out winners in their home finale.
C of I had a goal nullified by an offside call in the eighth minute, but cracked the net in the 17th on a perfect set piece. After a foul near the far sideline, Kyler Auernhamer played a free kick into the middle of the box, finding the head of Johnson for the initial tally.
The first-year Mountaineers (4-7, 3-6) had a pair of dangerous chances in the opening 45 minutes, as a Christian Anguiano shot from the right side missed just high, and just before the break, C of I keeper Grant Billings had to make a diving stop of a Jesus Trejo 18-yard shot from an unmarked position.
The hosts extended the lead in the 53rd minute, as Idoeta converted a flying header just outside the 6-yard-box off an Auernhamer free kick.
EOU had the run of the pitch in the second half, holding a 10-3 shot advantage, but Billings was up to the task, making four saves in the period to record his fourth save of 2015.
The game marked the final home match for Idoeta, Johnson, Joe Bolin, Jorge Brambila, Jake Helm Admir Selimovic, Brandon Smith, Ryan Geist and David Bautista.
The Yotes close out the regular-season with road games next Friday at Evergreen and next Saturday at Northwest, followed by a neutral site meeting in Hermiston, Ore., against Great Falls – in a make-up of an Oct. 4 date that was snowed out.
