OLYMPIA, Wash. – The College of Idaho completed a weekend road sweep, riding nine kills from both Randi Sturtz and Jackie van Vliet in a three-set sweep of Evergreen inside the CRC Gymnasium.
The Lady Yotes (14-9, 12-3 CCC) won for the 10th time in 11 games, stopping the Geoducks 25-18, 25-16, 25-16. C of I hit at a .307 clip on the night and added nine team blocks in the victory.
The host Geoducks (3-17, 3-12) thought upset in Set 1, as three-straight C of I hitting errors aided a six-point surge by ESC, taking a 12-9 lead. The Yotes turned to van Vliet, who had two kills and two blocks in a 7-1 run to take a 19-15 lead and cruised to the win.
Sturtz took charge in Set 2, pounding three kills in a 9-0 C of I run early in the period, opening an 11-4 lead. The Yotes extended the margin to 17-6 on a van Vliet kill – helping the team take a two set lead.
Evergreen hung around early in Set 3, taking a 5-4 lead on a combo-block from Kaela Carnes and Kylie Kytan. Abbey Fenton and Alaina Slater countered for the Yotes, each recording three kills in a nine-point C of I run that gave the visitors a 16-6 lead that was never headed.
Fenton had seven kills and three blocks; Katy Robinson had seven kills; with Slater recording six kills and a team-high six blocks. Sierra Porter had 31 assists and seven digs, with Kilee Lopez recording 10 digs and two aces for the Yotes.
Natalie Taylor led ESC with 11 kills, with Kytan recording 22 assists in the loss.
C of I returns home next weekend to close out the home schedule with matches vs. Warner Pacific and Multnomah.
