Box Score SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Connor Thompson scored a pair of goals in keeping Westminster College unbeaten over their first six matches, stopping the College of Idaho, 3-0, at Dumke Field.
The Griffins (5-0-1) took advantage of a weary C of I team, playing their third match in four days, holding a 16-3 edge in total shots and limiting the Yotes (2-1) to just two shots on goal.
After a fairly even first 20 minutes, in which C of I had a pair of solid looks, WC got on the board in the 24th minute. Following a free kick, Andrew Clayton drove a ball that was cleared off the goal line by the Coyote defense, only to find the waiting foot of Thompson inside the six-yard box for the 1-0 lead.
The first 20 minutes of the second half was played between the 18's until Clayton played a great through-ball to Thompson, who slotted a ball past C of I keeper Stearne Briem for the two-goal edge. WC would add a goal late, when a failed clearance by the Yotes ended up in their own net.
Briem, making his collegiate debut, made six saves for the Yotes. Logan Butzier made two saves to notch the shutout for the Griffins.
C of I is off until Sunday, Sept. 14, when they host Dominican University.
