Box Score SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – A second half goal from Joe Bolin and a dominating defensive performance helped the College of Idaho open the 2-0 for the first time since 2004, blanking Dakota Wesleyan, 1-0, at the Westminster Labor Day Classic.
The Yotes (2-0) limited DWU to just two shots on the afternoon – neither of them on frame – dominating possession in the victory. Keeper John French picked up his second career shutout.
C of I took 12 shots in the victory, including a pair in a flurry in the 12th minute off a corner kick – with Luis Gomez drive inside the box missing just high. Gomez nearly gave the Yotes the lead in the 37th minute, with a drive from outside the box clanging off the post, with Brandon Smith's rebound being blocked by the D
In the second half, the Yotes limited DWU without a shot for 44 minutes, finally breaking through in the 80th minute, as Bolin broke away from the Tigers (0-2) defense, slotting home the game winner past Alex Nelson.
C of I had a 7-1 edge in corner kicks in the victory.
The Yotes close out the trip tomorrow, meeting host Westminster at 11 a.m.
