Box Score CALDWELL, Idaho – The College of Idaho men's soccer team opened their 2014 campaign today at Simplot Stadium in style, knocking off the 23
rd ranked Bears of Rocky Mountain (1-2-0), 2-1.
The Coyotes (1-0-0), grabbed the lead 1-0 in the 21
st minute with a Joao Cardoso cross to the top of the 6-yard box and flicked into the top left corner by Nate Hunt.
C of I added to the 1-0 lead in the 54
th minute as Brandon Smith crossed the ball to the top of the box off a rebound, and Nate Hunt blasted it home for his second goal of the match.
The 23
rd ranked Bears would refuse to lie down and scored their first goal of the game in the 58
th minute on the boot of Jack Clancy.
The Bears had a few more opportunities towards the final horn but were unable to tie the match, ultimately losing 2-1.
The win today marks the first victory for the Coyote men over Rocky Mountain, their first win over a Top-25 team since the 2008 season.
The Coyotes will travel down to Salt Lake City this weekend for a duo of games, taking on Dakota Wesleyan on Sunday and Westminster on Monday.
