Box Score VANCOUVER, B.C. - Blake Evetts drove in the go-ahead run with sixth inning bases loaded fielders' choice, helping Concordia University defeat the College of Idaho, 4-1, in an elimination game at the 2014 NAIA West Grouping Championships at Thunderbird Park.
With the game deadlocked at 1-1 in the sixth the Cavaliers (28-19) loaded the bases with one out. Evetts hit a grounder to shortstop, with the Coyotes (25-22) getting the second out of the inning at first, but the throw to first base was off line, allowing two runs to score. CU would add an insurance run in the eighth on an Evetts RBI single.
It was enough for Harrison McGhee, who worked around 10 hits over the final four innings to earn the complete game win.
McGhee and Coyote starter, Ryan Eddy were locked in a pitchers duel, with both hurlers taking a no-hitter into the fifth inning. The Cavs struck first in the bottom of the fifth, as Mitch Talbott singled home a run. C of I had a great opportunity in the sixth - recording five singles in the inning - however, a pickoff and a caught stealing limited the threat, settling for an RBI infield single from Gregg Simonds.
Christian Lichtenthale had two hits for CU, with both Jordan Grubbs and Chase Miller recording two hits for the Yotes. Eddy went seven innings, allowing just four hits and fanning four in his final collegiate outing.
