Lady Yotes Stay Alive at CCC Championships

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Alexis Macias went 3-for-3 with five RBI, helping College of Idaho stave off elimination with a 10-0 victory over Southern Oregon at the Cascade Conference Championships, presented by U.S. Bank, at the OIT Softball Complex.

The Lady Yotes (28-14), who dropped a 10-1 decision to Concordia in today's opener, move on to face Oregon Tech in an elimination game at 11 a.m.  The winner will face Concordia, needing to defeat the Cavaliers twice to win the league crown.

Macias got the Yotes on the board in the first, roping an RBI double to plate Briana Brace with the first run of the contest.  An inning later, C of I sent 10 batters to the plate – breaking the game wide open with a six-run frame.  Brace, who was 3-for-3 in the win, singled home a run to make it 2-0.  Macias plated two with an RBI single; Nickayla Skinner singled home a run; and Katie Rowe added a two-run single to extend the lead to 7-0.

It was more than enough for Skinner, who retired the first 12 batters in a row, logging her 30th career shutout.

Macias capped the scoring in the third with a two-run double, scoring on error by the Raiders (15-23) defense.

The opener today was a complete opposite, as Concordia (32-15) pounded out three home runs and became the first team to chase Skinner from the circle in 2014.

C of I jumped out to a 1-0 lead, as Brace singled, stole second, moved to third on a ground out, and scored on a Destiny Turner grounder to first.

It would stay that way until the third, when the Cavaliers loaded the bases with one out.  After Skinner fanned Taylor Copher for the second out, Cassidy Horner hit the first pitch she saw over the center field wall, giving CU a 4-1 lead.  The Portland school would bat around for six in the fourth – including a three-run shot by Copher and a two-run blast from Taylor Bussey.

McKenzie Marshall allowed just four hits in the five inning game, picking up the win, with Katie Aden going 3-for-3 for the Cavs.
