Fabricius Leads Yotes to Sweep of Oregon Tech

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

CALDWELL, Idaho – Zach Fabricius went 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI in the opener, then took a shutout into the ninth inning in the nightcap, as The College of Idaho completed a four-game sweep of Oregon Tech at Wolfe Field.

The Yotes (13-7, 4-0 NAIA West) picked up a 13-5 victory in Game 1, pounding out a season-high 17 hits, then rode Fabricius' left arm to a 5-2 victory in the late tilt.

In the opener, both team loaded the bases in the first, however, only the Coyotes cashed in on their opportunity. Brent Mehling got C of I on the board with a two-run double off the left field wall and Cole Mansanerez followed with a sacrifice fly, giving the hosts a 3-0 lead.

OIT (5-17, 0-4) countered with an Aaron Bocchi RBI ground out in the third, before the Yotes blew the game open in the bottom of the inning. Fabricius blooped a two-run double down the left field line, Jake Hennessey lined a two-run single to left, and Chase Miller doubled home a run, as C of I built an 8-1 lead.

Tech got within 8-4 after a Tyson Dahl solo homer in the fourth, but a two-run Miller double in the seventh pushed the margin to 10-4 and C of I added three insurance runs in the eighth.

Mitch Viydo got the win, allowing just two earned runs on five hits in seven innings of work for the Yotes. Miller was 3-for-5 with three RBI; with Mehling, Fabricius, Mansanerez, Brady Mooney, and Troy Carr each logging two hits.

Dahl was 3-for-5 for the Owls in the loss.

Game 2 was dominated by Fabricius, as the southpaw took a three-hit shutout into the ninth – at one stretch retiring 12-straight batters. The junior did not walk a batter and struck out seven to pick up his third win.

C of I took the lead in the fourth, as Miller led off with a single, stole second, and scored on a Mitch Skaggs RBI single. Nick Muncy added a sacrifice fly later in the frame to make it 2-0. The Yotes would add to their lead in the seventh, as Miller doubled home a run, Skaggs followed with a run-scoring single, and Mansanerez gapped an RBI double.

OIT broke through in the ninth, as Ryan Hayden golfed a two-run homer to left – but Kyle Garvin was summoned from the pen, striking out Colton Minton to end the game – picking up his fourth save.

Miller, Skaggs, and Mansanerez each had two hits for the Yotes, with Hayden going 2-for-4 in the loss for OIT.

C of I returns to action next weekend with a four-game road series at No. 2 ranked Lewis-Clark State.
