Cole Mansanerez and Mitch Skaggs celebrating a home run
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

CALDWELL, Idaho – Ryan Eddy struck out a career-high 11 in a five-hit shutout in Game 1, with Markus Lively and Mitch Viydo combining for a seven-hit shutout in Game 2, as the College of Idaho completed a four-game sweep of Simpson University at Wolfe Field.

The Coyotes (19-13, 10-6 NAIA West) hit a pair of home runs in a 3-0 victory in the opener, then scored runs in five different innings in an 11-0 mercy-rule win in Game 2.

Eddy was dominant, recording the first double-digit strikeout game by a C of I hurler since 2012. The righty allowed just one runner to reach third base and walked just one man.

C of I took the lead in the second on a solo homer just inside the left field foul pole by Sam Johnston. The Yotes would extend the lead to 3-0 in the fifth, as Mitch Skaggs blasted a solo shot and Jake Hennessey added a sacrifice fly.

Skaggs, Hennessey, Cole Mansanerez, and Gregg Simonds each had two hits for the Yotes.

Game 2 saw the Yotes open the scoring in the first inning, as Mansanerez lined a two-out RBI single. The hosts would break the game open in the second, batting around for four runs – including a Seth Champlin RBI hit-by-pitch, a Chase Miller two-run double, and a Skaggs sacrifice fly.

Brent Mehling lined an RBI double off the left field wall and Nick Muncy blooped an RBI single in the fourth to make it 7-0. Hunter Larson made the most of his first collegiate hit, lacing a two-run double in the fifth to extend the lead to 9-0, with a two-run Simonds double in the sixth pushing the margin to double-digits.

Lively worked out of trouble in each of the first three innings before setting down eight-straight men in the middle frames. The lefty did not walk a batter and struck out four in six innings of work.

Mansanerez, Larson, and Muncy each had two hits for the Yotes, while Skaggs saw his 31-game on-base streak snapped, going 0-for-2.

Ryan Lombardi had two hits in the loss for the Redhawks (1-31, 1-15).

C of I returns to action this weekend with home doubleheaders on Saturday and Sunday against British Columbia.
