Coyotes and Corban Split Saturday Doubleheader

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

SALEM, Ore. – Cole Mansanerez capped a three-run seventh inning rally with a two-RBI single, helping College of Idaho salvage a split of one-run games at Corban University.

The host Warriors (15-13, 7-5 NAIA West) hung on to win Game 1, 4-3, with C of I rallying for the 3-2 victory in Game 2.

Trailing 1-0 in the nightcap, the Coyotes (15-13, 6-6) had five-straight two-out batters reach base in the seventh. Troy Carr walked, Chase Miller singled, and Mitch Skaggs walked to load the bases. Jordan Grubbs was hit by a 2-2 pitch to tie the game, with Mansanerez following with a single to left to score two.

Corban plated an unearned run in the eighth to get within 3-2 and loaded the bases, but Kyle Garvin came in from the pen and retired all five men he faced to pick up his fifth save.

Mitch Viydo got the win, going six-plus innings, allowing a run on seven hits, striking out five.

The Warriors jumped out to a 4-0 lead in Game 1 and held on. Carr got the Yotes on the board with a sacrifice fly in the fifth, then added two in the seventh – scoring one on a Nick Muncy ground out and another on a Jake Hennessey single – but stranded a pair to end the inning.

Rilyn Lewchuk went six innings to get the win for the Warriors, with Daniel Aranda retiring 9-of-10 batters to earn his first save. Ryan Eddy went the distance for the Yotes, allowing just one earned run and striking out five. Hennessey had the lone multi-hit game of the day for C of I, going 2-for-4.

The Yotes return home next weekend, hosting Simpson University in a four-game series.
