Yotes Split Pitchers' Duels at Corban

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

SALEM, Ore. – Pitching was the story at Warrior Field this afternoon, as Corban University and College of Idaho split a pair of one-run NAIA West games.

The host Warriors (14-12, 6-4) used a walk-off winner to grab a 3-2 victory in Game 1, while the Yotes ended a nine-game road losing streak by scratching together a late rally for a 2-1 win in Game 2.

In the opener, the Yotes (14-12, 5-5) strung together three first inning hits, with Cole Mansanerez roping an RBI single to give C of I a 1-0 lead. Corban tied the game on a second inning bases loaded walk, but the Coyotes regained the lead in the fifth on a two-out Jordan Grubbs RBI single.

Corban drew even in the bottom of the fifth on a Marc Gallegos sacrifice fly, then won it with two outs in the ninth, as Gallegos lined an RBI single.

Jacob Kopra went the distance for the Warriors for his fifth win, while Kyle Garvin took the loss in relief for C of I. Troy Carr had the lone multi-hit game for the Yotes.

Game 2 was dominated by Austin Guzzon of the Warriors, who struck out 11 and took a no-hitter into the eighth inning. Corban scored an unearned run in the first and made it hold up until the eighth, when Riley Humberger broke up the no-no with a leadoff single. Pinch runner Brady Mooney moved to second on a sacrifice and to third on a ground out, scoring in a run down to tie the score.

In the ninth, Grubbs lined a one-out single, stole second, and scored on a Gregg Simonds single.

Garvin got the win in relief, retiring all four men he faced. Zach Fabricius was stellar, allowing just six hits and an unearned run.

The teams close out the series tomorrow with an 11 a.m. doubleheader.
