LEWISTON, Idaho – A six-run third inning outburst helped Lewis-Clark State complete a four-game weekend sweep of the College of Idaho, as the second-ranked Warriors won today's matinee, 9-3, at Harris Field.
The visiting Coyotes (13-11, 4-4 NAIA West) manufactured a run in the top of the third, as catcher Jake Hennessey singled, with his courtesy runner, Seth Champlin moving to second on a bunt and to third on a wild pitch. Troy Carr delivered Champlin from third with a ground out to give C of I the 1-0 lead.
It was short-lived, as the Warriors (15-4, 6-2) brought 10 men to the plate in the bottom of the inning. Michael Sexton tied the game with an RBI triple, with a Jake Shirley RBI single giving L-C the lead for good. Ty Jackson singled home a pair; Ryan Sells doubled home a run; and Cody Lavalli tripled in another, giving the hosts a 6-1 lead.
It was enough for four LCSC pitchers who combined to allow just five hits, as Dillon Keane picked up the win for the Warriors. Sexton went 3-for-4, part of a 14 hit attack for L-C.
Hennessey led the way for the Yotes, going 3-for-4 in the loss.
C of I returns to action next weekend traveling to Corban for a four-game series.
