Lady Yotes Sweep Northwest, Win Streak at Seven

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

KIRKLAND, Wash. – Nickayla Skinner and Cortni Pena each tossed shutouts, helping the College of Idaho extend their win streak to seven, sweeping Northwest University, 9-0 and 6-0 at Everest Park.

The No. 13 ranked Lady Yotes (12-4, 4-0 CCC) completed a four-game weekend sweep of their road trip ahead of a road match-up next at Oregon Tech with first-place in the Cascade Conference on the line.

C of I jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning of Game 1, as Briana Brace led off the game with her fifth homer of the season, Destiny Turner roped a three-run double, and Paige Gabiola lifted a sacrifice fly. The lead would grow to 8-0 in the second, as Alexis Macias singled in a run, Katie Rowe tripled in another, and Turner delivered a run with a ground out.

It was more than enough for Skinner, who improved to 7-1 on the season, allowing just five hits and fanning five.

Game 2 was all Pena, as the sophomore limited the Eagles (1-9, 1-3) to just four hits in winning her fifth-straight decision.

Rowe opened the scoring with an RBI double in the first, with Ashley Van Horne ripping a three-run homer in the second to make it 4-0 – more than enough for Pena.

Van Horne went 3-for-4 with three runs scored for the Yotes, with Rowe going 2-for-2 in the victory.
