LEWISTON, Idaho – Lewis-Clark State erased a pair of early College of Idaho leads, as the No. 2 ranked Warriors swept a doubleheader from the Coyotes, 6-2 and 10-2, at Harris Field.
Mitch Skaggs hit a two-run home run in the opening frame of each game for the Yotes (13-10, 4-2 NAIA West), but L-C answered in the bottom half of the first in each game.
In Game 1, a Cody Lavalli RBI single capped a three-run frame, with Ty Jackson adding a two-run single in the third to make it 5-2.
Trailing 6-2 in the eighth, the Yotes loaded the bases with no outs – but a strikeout and a double play ball ended the threat.
Nick Lemoncelli struck out eight in five innings to earn the win for L-C, limiting six different C of I players to one-hit.
Trailing 2-0 in Game 2, the Warriors strung together four hits to open the first – including back-to-back RBI doubles by Cody Weiss and Jorge Weiss, giving L-C the lead. A five-run third broke the game open, including a Justin Sells two-run triple.
Skaggs and Chase Miller each had two hits for the Yotes, with Ortega, Tariq Staton, and Joe Mello logging two hits for L-C.
Game 4 of the series is tomorrow at Noon.
