LEWISTON, Idaho – Michael Noteware and three relievers combined on a one-hit shutout, as Lewis-Clark State opened a four game series with an 8-0 victory over the College of Idaho at Harris Field.
The Yotes mustered just a leadoff single in the second by Cole Mansanerez off of Noteware, as the Warriors (12-4, 3-2 NAIA West) recorded their 15th one-hitter in program history.
C of I had their chances against L-C, putting runners in scoring position in the second, third, and sixth innings, but could not break through against the Warriors staff.
LCSC got on the board in the second on an RBI single by Kyle Knigge, pushing the lead to 4-0 in the third – getting an RBI single by Cody Lavalli, a Ryan Sells RBI double, and a Ty Jackson sacrifice fly. Knigge added an RBI triple in the fifth inning that extended the margin to 8-0, part of a 2-for-4 day.
Noteware walked two and struck out five for his third win. C of I starter Markus Lively took the loss, allowing eight runs on 12 hits. Yote relievers, Joel Martin and George Casper combined for three shutout innings, helped by a trio of double play balls behind them.
The middle games of the series will be played tomorrow, with the doubleheader scheduled for Noon.
